inspiron 531Long Beep. Closed

Question

Hello,   
Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 8.0
While downloading and urgent update from Dells web site  
I receive a long beep and screen went dark and I have   
been unable to get PC to do anything but Long Beep.  
Is this a know problem and how would I address this problem.
