To play musci frm laptop through amp?

Hello,
Please help, hair falling out, l am trying to play music from my laptop, a HP Pavilion Dv9700,
through my amplifier via a HDMI cable, my itunes appears via the amp onto my tv, brilliant, but the sound still ccomes through my laptop, and want the sound to come through the amp to my surround sound system? What am l doing wrong?

Hi there,

You need to use 3.5 jack plug to laptop and rca end to amp to get better sound,here is a picture of the needed cable:
