IPod touch doesnt turn on

Hello,
My iPod touch 2nd gen has been working for a year and just recently i downloaded the update 3.01 and it worked for a few hours. soon it froze and i figured alright then i will just restart it. so i tried but when it started up again it opened up to the apple symbol then after a few seconds the backlight kicks in making it extreamly bright then mayby 5 seconds later it just turns off again. no matter how many times i try the same thing happens. if i try plugging it into the computer there is no recognition, its just like if you pluged it in while it was off
