Open command prompt and type following command to check whether your laptop is assigned correct IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS servers. If yes, you should be able to ping the gateway IP.
ipconfig /all
If no, your wireless adapter did not connect properly. Your wireless adapter setting must match the wireless setting on wireless router in order to connect successfully. If you need additional help, have a look on this Windows 7 wireless adapter configuration example.
