Toshiba monitor

Hello, i have toshiba laptop, op - windows xp, been connected to an external monitor for some time, recently wanted to switch to an original lcd screen but for some reason cannot, fn plus f5 does not work -screen stays blank, any ideas how to resolve the problem, thanks a lot
