Hello,

I have a problem adjusting the volume and brightness manual controls placed on the top of the keyboard. For some reason they are not responding when I press the buttons. Is there and way to restore their function throught system restore?

see if you've uninstalled the supporting software or drivers. You may just download the drivers and any accompanying software for the softkey options.
OR... you're forgetting to use the FN key (bottom left corner, between CTRL and ALT keys)?
