Problem with my key board and mouse

Hello,
I have an Intel Pentium 4. I spent like a month and a half without using it. when I tried to open and use it, it allowed me log in with my password, the keyboard and the mouse working well but after loading to the desktop level, the keyboard froze and the mouse stopped moving, it hangs on for like a minute or two and restarts itself. what could be the problem? thanks DAN
