Hi,
I have a 500GB WD internal hard disk which I am trying to use as an external. I have a hard disk casing and when I am plugging the USB, I hear the sound but the hard disk is not shown anywhere in My Computer nor the Disk Management. Can any one tell me what should I do? The hard disk is brand new and I am using windows XP.
Thanks
HSingh

Hello,
Try this 1
Click on Start --> Run --> Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter. "Device Manager" will be opened. Is there any yellow mark? Double-click on it and let me know the "Device Status" message.
Good Luck

Hi,
The Device status reads as

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."

How do i reinstall the driver?

Could it be a case of master / slave configuration. The external enclosure usually expects them at master

Hello,

The driver is missing. Try reinstalling the USB drivers.
If the problem still exists then
Right-click on the yellow mark --> Select the option "Update" --> When the wizard appears, select
the option "No, not at this time" --> Select the option "Advanced" and click on next --> Select the
option "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" and click on next--> Make sure that "Show compatible hardware" option is selected --> Under "Model" if you find any default option, select it and click on next and follow the instructions.
If the problem still exists then let me know your HDD casing brand name.
Good Luck
