Right-click on your external drive --> Properties --> Does it shows your used space ?

Try this 1
Check if the files are not in hidden mode.
Click on "Start" -->Run--> Type cmd and press Enter. "Command Prompt" will be opened.
[Note : If you are using Windows Vista or 7 then
Click on "Start" --> In search box, type cmd. When the cmd appears in the search list then
right-click on the cmd --> Select the option "Run as administrator".]
Here I assume your external drive letter as G:
Enter this command.
attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*
Now press enter.
Note : Don't forget to replace the letter g with your external drive letter.
Now check for your files in your external drive.
