Inspiron E1505 wont fire up

Hello,
My laptop simply wont fire up at all, i hit the power button and it comes on for a few seconds then goes off and nothing happens, it doesnt initiate nor do i hear anything trying to initiate. I thought that perhaps the battery needed changing so tried that and still nothing....anyone have any ideas pls? thanks
