Hello,

I'm having a problem here where I can't connect to the internet while I'm connected to my home network. I noticed that some people have posted some similar post but none of those worked for me.

I have a company's laptop that I usually bring home after work. On the way home, I use a broadband to connect to the internet while I'm on the train. After I get home I also connect to the internet through my comcast network.

Now, one day I can't connect to the office network because there was a ip conflict with an other machine. So I contacted an IT personnel that told me that they fixed the issue as the DHCP server was giving out an IP address that's being used by other machine. They changed the DHCP rules and I did not receive any IP conflict anymore. But that evening, when I got home, I can't connect to the internet while my husband's personal machine can connect to the internet. The IP address I'm having is different from the IP address that is my broadband and office network, hence, no IP collision. Can someone give me an idea why this is happening? and what is the solution for this?

Your laptop IP address must be in the same range as your home router otherwise it will not connect.
Your home router probably uses 192.168.0.0 -> 192.168.0.255 range.
If your IT tech changed your laptop to the 172.16.0.0 or 10.0.0.0 ranges then you will not connect at home.

Your laptop DHCP rules need to be changed again so that it can auto negotiate the address with both your home and office server.

Good Luck

this is my IP address on my home network: 192.168.0.107
this is my IP address on my broadband network: PPP adapter 3G connection:
IP address: 28.237.60.230
this is my IP address on my office network: 192.168.0.60

It only causes problem at home and not at the office network. I don't think changing the DCHP rules will help because the rules it sets on the DCHP server is that so I can't get an IP address above 192.168.0.99, because it is reserved for servers, etc. And also, when I get back home, I still receive an IP address that was restricted by the office's DHCP server which is 192.168.0.107.

Please help :(

Did you manually set the IP address to 192.168.0.107? Or did you enter fixed IP addresses into your home server? It now sounds like you need to set the home router to auto negotiate.

It just gives the IP 192.168.0.107 to me automatically without me setting it. What is this auto negotiate? Why is it necessary in this case? How do we do set it to auto negotiate?

You will need to sign on to the router and change the starting number.
most routers are 192.168.0.1 and then it should assign new numbers in sequential order as you connect them. You don't want a fixed IP address in your laptop you want it to negotiate an new number each time you select your wi-fi access. You can find more info at the web site of your router manufacturer. You probably need to sign on to the router via a wired connection and not wi-fi.
