Assume you are refering to a USB caddy hard drive. On Windows 7
Reconnect to PC.
Press Start
right clck Computer
press Manage
(computer management screen will appear)
select Disk Management
Is your WD 500gb hard drive showing there !

Personally I'll dismantle the caddy and put the hard drive inside my pc.
If I then get boot problems then its hard drive corruption.
Hopefully Windows will then enable me to run fdisk on that drive
