Can't connect to internet using cable lineClosed

Hello, 
Recently i noticed that i have been unable to get internet while my laptop is connected with the cable line. There is a light that shows that the cable line is in, but nothing happens to indicate that there is internet available. Before i was able to do so, now i only have wireless as a option. what do i need to do in order to gain back this option?
