Cannot for the life of me get wifi..dell inspiron 1525

So, I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista (pretty sure its the studio version laptop). It does have a wireless switch on the right hand side. Slide and hold nothing happens. I cant get it to recognize a wireless connection.
I let a friend borrow this thing for like a year, she has installed on it USB wireless c**p. I am pretty sure I need to uninstall that. Anyone know of where I can get the Drivers list so I can make sure to update everything?? How in the world can I get this thing working? Steps to take, things to check in order...any help would be appreciated.
