Hi becca1,
This could be an issue with the touchpad as sometimes by an accidental movement of the palm across the touchpad moves the cursor to a different location or sometimes selects the entire text. To isolate what exactly is the issue, please disable the touchpad for some time and check if the problem occurs again. If the problem is with the touchpad you can try using this utility. This can disable the touchpad when the keyboard is engaged in typing:

If the issue is still not fixed please restore the computer to an earlier date when the Windows Updates were not installed.
