Hello, I am getting a disk read error when I try to start my Acer Aspire 5755. I bought it off of a friend a few months ago, after it had to get its motherboard replaced, the hard drive was not replaced. The hard drive is a Hitachi HTS547575A9E384. I first got the disk read error when I force shutdown the computer because it was unresponsive, When I rebooted it the desktop loaded but nothing happened when I clicked anything. I rebooted it again and that is when I started getting the error. I have tried putting in a startup repair disk, but I still get the same error message, even after changing the boot order. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry. This is a sign that the hard disk has failed and needs to be replaced. This is relatively easy if you have the system restore disks. Otherwise you will need an OEM copy of Windows or a new unused retail copy.

Good Luck

Is there any way to recover the data on the disk?

Maybe. You can plug it into a desktop and it MIGHT be able to read the good tracks on the disk. Or you can buy USB adapter that lets you adapt the drive to use it as an external drive with the fixed laptop. But, this drive is not reliable for long term use.
