Hello,

I have read plenty of complaints and all of WD problems related pages, but i still do not know how to solve my external disk problem. My external disk after plugging with USB flashes, spins but remains unrecognised in ANY computer with ANY system, including Ubuntu. WD Diagnostics program shows it as a physical, but logically not recognised memory. For me the disk itself is not a problem, bigger problem is about the data i stored in there, because i backed up there almost literally whole my life. This is why i do not want to reformat it or send it up to WD and get a new one. I cannot even take it apart and plug it with SATA, cause it does not have SATA, it is natively an USB drive. This is not a hardware problem, this is somehow a trust problem, because if something like a 1TB hard drive breaks after few months of using and i cannot even recover my files, i will NEVER EVER again use anything from WD. If anyone has any idea how to at least recover my files, please help me.

Hi eysberg,

It is really annoying to lose personal data. As you mentioned, you tried most of the steps mentioned on the web, there is one small tip mentioned on this site in the below link which might be helpful:

https://ccm.net/faq/26351-western-digital-hard-disk-not-being-detected

If not tried already, please give it a try and check if this helps.

Do reply with results.

Thank You Zohaib, i did as You said, but disk itself is installed. It is detected in device manager and listed as working properly. The only problem is that i cannot access it, it doesn't even show up in "My Computer" window.
