I mistakingly removed my external wd element 1023 while use. Since then I have found it difficult accessing it. It is not showing in my computer but showing in disk management as an un allocated drive, needs to be initialized and offline status. Pls I need to get this drive working again, because I have several documents in it

Hello,
Without safely removing any external device cause issues..
ok what about right clicking on your drive in disk management?.
what are the options it shows?
Like the image shown below.

Hi Jossiedewole,

Sadly removing an external drive without disconnecting it may cause some issues. I would advise you to enter Device Manager and uninstall the WD Elements. Restart the PC and plug it back in. Other option is to use the Diskpart command from Command Prompt. It should be like:
Diskpart
List disks
select disk n (where n is the number of your external drive)
Assign letter =L (where L is any letter you like and it is not in use)

I would strongly recommend you to check the drive on another PC. Initializing the drive may solve the issue but will erase all your data.

Thanks for the effort sir, but i can't initialize. The option is not enable, it is also in offline. Every effort to put it online , the message " The media is write protected". I still look forward to further assistance from the technical crew. Thanks for your regular efforts.

If you receive the "The media is write protected" message, try using another command from Command prompt.
Diskpart
List disks
Select disk N
Attributes disk clear readonly

This should grant you write permissions.

My WD Elements hard drive is corrupt or unreadable and I would love a solution. Anyone have any tips to solve this problem at home?
When I plug the hard drive in its recognised but instead of registering as 'WD Elements' like it normally does it stays as 'Local Disk G:/'. When I attempt to open the hard drive it says 'G:/ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupt or unreadable'

I'd love to be able to recover a majority if not all my data so any help would be great but the conpanies I've spoken to charge commercial prices which are just way too high!

WD Elements SE unrecognised

Hello,

I have read plenty of complaints and all of WD problems related pages, but i still do not know how to solve my external disk problem. My external disk after plugging with USB flashes, spins but remains unrecognised in ANY computer with ANY system, including Ubuntu. WD Diagnostics program shows it as a physical, but logically not recognised memory. For me the disk itself is not a problem, bigger problem is about the data i stored in there, because i backed up there almost literally whole my life. key word missing

in my laptop, one of my key word is placing in wrong side. if I press {shift+@} it will shown{ " } symbol.
At the same time { shift+" } is shown { @ } this symbol.

WD Elements 2 TB not recognized in Windows 7/10

Hello guys,

I am at my wits end, searching and finding a solution to this never ending problem.

I have a WD 2 TB Elements drive, which worked perfectly some 3 weeks ago. I used it as a Backup device for some important files for me.

I plugged it 2 days back to my Windows 10 x64 machine, and do whatever I may, it didn't show up in the 'My PC'. I am getting an error message: "USB device not recognized: The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned". how to reformat Western Digital Element 1 TB

Hello,
i just bought the WD 1 TB and I see that everyone says to 'reformat to NTFS'...but I can't seem to figure out how to reformat it. There are no 'menus' to go to ... you just plug it in and start adding to it..
No instructions or manual either.
I don't know if I need to reformat using VISTA or via this WD HDD
