External harddrive problems

I wonder if anyone can help? I have an external hard drive connected via USB. It was working fine for last 3 months when i first got it but now when I connect it says i have to format before i can use it. In computer management it shows as the drive but no avail space info underneath. If i format the drive it works fine until I disconnect the usb. The next time i then plug it in I get prompted to reformat again. Any ideas would be great

HI,
it may be that the HDD is faulty.
contact your retailer if it is still on warranty.
