Ps3 slim for Christmas

Hey guys I got a ps3 slim for Christmas and they said it was brand new so I cracked it open and plugged it into my TV and all and I started it up and a message came up and said Cannot Start Could Not Find The Correct Hard Disk or something to that effect and I don't know what to do the recovery menu wont come up and PLEASE SOMEONE HELP MEH!!!!!!!
