I bought this laptop Dell Inspiron 1501 the screen is black you can tell it is on the girl said the you could see the cursor when it first comes on but I have yet to see it. She said it was plugged in and she turned it on and it went black. How can I reset it to factory settings? Is there any hope?

Chances are you have a laptop with a hardware problem. Reset to factory state will probably have no effect.
