Dell inspiron 1525 disk drive problem

Hi, since i got it my old inspiron 1525 has had trouble with certain commercially produced dvd's, i put it in and drive spends ages scanning it but cant recognise it as a dvd!
Greatly annoying as i tend to prefer to watch dvd's on my laptop.
Any ideas?

DVD copy protection can confuse some drives. On my dell I replaced the physical DVD drive to solve the problem. But my Dell drive was an external drive so it was easy to replace.

It seems like its unable to read the disk, othertimes it takes 4 or 5 attempts for it to work!
