In general, you should do what Ambucias suggested. Your drive may not be damaged. Try to check with another USB cable (I presume this is an external drive). Is the drive visible in BIOS? If it is, it may be an indicator that you may be facing some software issues. Visit the manufacturer's web site for some updates.

After plugging in the device, go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system.
Try connecting the device again.

In general, if the drive is not visible in many systems, I would say that the drive may have failed. If it is damaged, you may need the assistance of a Data Recovery Company. Check the HDD manufacturer's web page for additional information about which companies to contact. This may be important if the drive is still under warranty.
