Sony VAIO will not start

I recently performed a system recovery on a Laptop that had a virus. Afterwords, it was working fine. But one day this week after I restarted, the login screen would not show. It gets past the Windows logo but gets stuck on the login screen background. It just has the blue background. I let it sit for about an hour and still does not load. I tried system recovery and it will not load, the VAIO Care Rescue just gets stuck a quarter of the way. I also tried Safe Mode and I have the same problem with the login screen. What could the problem be and what would be a good fix?

My educated guess is that you must use the recovery disks.
