Try removing your battery and only use your power adapter to power the machine. Does it still do the same? If it works perhaps your Battery has failed and is trying to grab all the power for itself.
Also, check the power supply is the correct one for the laptop - sounds silly, but I did have a customer that had loads of old power supplies and was just using the wrong one!
If this doesnt work, then I believe its time for a repair guy to get involved.
