External hard disk is not working

Hello Jack,
My passport external hard disk is not detected.
The white light on the hard disk is on
I can feel it is working
But it is not detected by the computer.
Please help me out to work my hard disk without losing the data

Hi

Try this:

After plugging in the device, go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system.
Try connecting the device again

How can i recognize the device

It will have the drive letter and the name of your HD. If it is not there, you have a physical problem which can not be fixed online.

Yes..it is not showing the drive letter or the name of HD. :(
