Hey there, crohde.
So is it safe to assume that the drive is working without a hitch with your computer? If "yes", then this might be due to something connected with the TV. What's the files system of your new drive and your girlfriend's drive (e.g. exFAT, NTFS, FAT32)? If it's not due to a different file system, then it might be the size of the partition. I'd recommend that you contact the TV manufacturer's customer support and ask what's the maximum size of external storage devices, which the TV supports. Perhaps you could try to "fool" the TV by creating a 1TB partition, to see if it is recognized.
