Access to my external drive stick

Hello,

I have a excel spreadsheet on my external drive that I need to update. I have searched everywhere but can not find. I pulled out the printer usb and inserted the drive stick. When I put the stick in nothing happens. Before now the drive would start. I am a rookie so please answer in layman's language. If needed step by step

It's possible that the drive has failed. Is there another computer you try it on?
