After plugging in the device, go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system.
Try connecting the device again

Hi YFang,
I am sorry for any inconveniency caused by your WD drive. Please follow the steps provided by Ambucias. Additionally, open Disk Management and check if the drive appears with correct file format. I strongly recommend you to check the drive on another PC and with another USB cable. Are the noises coming from the drive normal? I mean, are they like noise from spinning or are the more like scratching noises?
Try connecting the drive to a Linux OS. If you do not have that option, burn a Linux live version. It can be freely downloaded. Boot it from a USB drive and connect the drive. The drive might be recognized giving you a chance to backup all data. Let me know if there is any progress!
Hope this helps
