I tried the command attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*
on the msdos prompt. Of course, my drive letter is not g. So I replaced it by the correct letter. It produced the $RECYCLEBIN folder only. I emptied it. But there is still around 250 GB of used space that is hiding. How do I free up that space? My EHD is 450 GB approximately.
Please help.

Hi DDG44,

Trying the attrib command was a good decision. Since there is no result, try using some data recovery tool. If you are sure the data is stored on the drive, you might be able to retrieve part of it. I leave you a link with some download suggestions.

Have you tried the drive on another PC and with another USB cable?

Hope this helps
