Headphone problem

Hello,
I have a new laptop for a month or so, with Windows 8 , it works well. Suddenly my headphone socket is not working- when I put headphones or a lead in the socket, sound continues to come out of the laptop speakers, but not into the headphones.
Can anyone help me please?

Are you using any audio management softwares like Realtek HD Audio Manager on your machine ?
You can always get in there and check the audio settings .
