Computer shut down

Hello,
I am currently having trouble starting my computer. Its a dell and i've only had it for about a year in June 09. I cant figure out how to fix it i wont go past any start up page and if it does go onto an account it will go black within seconds. I really hope i dont have to replace it but if i do well i guess i'll have to. However any computer experts that can answer me that would be great!

This is a simple fix when your booting up press F8 and select safe mode. Then run a virus scanner see if that works. If it dosent work email me at mdgnys@mdgnys.com.
