How to turn off music on iPhone: lock screen, timer
The iPhone offers a digital music player to listen to your favourite music wherever you are. Once your music session is over, it's no use looking for a Stop button, as there is none. This article will show you how to stop music playback on an iPhone.

With the pause button
The only way to stop the music on an iPhone is to tap the Pause button and then the Home button to return to the Home screen. The music app will keep running in the background and after some period of inactivity, iOS will automatically close it.
With a headset
- You can stop the music using the microphone button of the iPhone's headset.
- Some wireless headsets also have a tactile feature where they stop music playback with the touch of the earbud or headset.
With Siri
- You can also ask Siri (the voice recognition system from Apple) to control the music playback. Just do a long press on the home button (or microphone button on headset ) and say "Stop music."
With a timer
The iPhone can automatically close the music app after a certain time.
- Go to the Clock app > Timer
- Go to When Timer Ends
- Scroll down to the bottom and select Stop Playing. This will stop any music that is currently playing when the timer ends.
- Click on Set and your settings are active.
With the Lock Screen Controls
If your iPhone is locked or in sleep mode, you can stop music playback by pressing the "Side" button (or "Power" button, depending on your iPhone model) once. This action will pause or stop the music that is currently playing.
With the Control Center
If your iPhone is unlocked, you can access the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner (on iPhone models with Face ID) or swiping up from the bottom of the screen (on iPhone models with a Home button).
In the Control Center, you will see music playback controls. To stop the music, tap the "Pause" button (a vertical line) on the music widget.
With the Music App
You can also stop music playback by opening the Music app on your iPhone. If the app is already open, tap the "Pause" button (a vertical line inside a circle) in the bottom center of the screen to stop the music.
