Wireless internet suddenly went off

My internet suddenly went off last night on the laptop. I have other devices working from it but this is only working with the cable plugged in. I've been on to my provider with no oy. They were trying to charge me money to put me through to someone else.
When I take he Ethernet cable out and try to connect. It asks for a user name and password. Not sure if this is that of my router or my user name and password for the laptop. I've tried both and either way it says connecting to broadband while spooling and then I get a message error 651 (the modem or other one ting device has reported an error.
My router name does not show up in a list as it would normally.
Any help at all would be gratefully received.
