HP Compac Presario Laptop won't turn on

Hello,

My HP Compac Presario will not come on. When I press and hold down the power button the lights blink about every three seconds but computer does turn on. It's like it's sleep mode or something. I tried all the suggestions to no avail. Somebody help! Please!
