My Windows 7 PC don't recognize my blank DVD+r dis

Hello,
I got a DVD+R disc, inserted it but my CD drive says "insert a DVD" . okay, I went online tried out almost all tips on how to make it work but the CD drive seriously loves saying " insert a DVD " ..
It's a windows 7 PC
Could it be the type of DVD? Cos I'm confused
