My internet cnnection fails

Hello, my name is aaron.i conect an ethernet cable to my ps3 it gets an Ip address but the internet connection fails everytime.
can you help me.

Helo, do you connect it directly to your modem or do you use a router or switch?
just in case try to connect it directly to the modem , and tell us if it still fails
