My ipod says its not pluged in the computer

Hello,
i really need some help here my ipod is plugged in the computer but the computer says its not and it just charges so i cant put any new songs on my ipod it is only 2 years old what do i do and if u help me i have had many other problems before so i might be able to help u if u can help me please help me i don't wanna waste my pocket money on a new one when there is nothing really much wrong with the one i have and it has all my songs on it plllleeeaaaasssseeeee help me i am dying without new songs i want to put Michael jacksons new song this is it on it and i cant
