Hello,

No genius here, I have a Maxor 250 gb and a Seagate 250 gb that has come out of an old machine built for me in 2007. Trying to put them into the new machine that has a Hitachi 320 gb with an amd Phenom 3 processor with 4 gb ram. As I see it, the old drives hardly used but contain a lot of info, have a different connection than the new hitachi, and so there is not a connection in the new unit to attach the other drives. Is there a kit or adapter that I can get to wire these babies up? Ya I was hoping that the old drives would just be plug and play, but no. YOUR advice will be greatly appreciated and I will forward 10 ataboys to you. Thanking everyone in advance for your assistance.

The old drives were IDE interface drives (using a large ribbon cable) the new Motherboards use SATA interface (a much smaller cable and plug). There is normally one IDE connector on the motherboard. that can connect two drives. But, it might be used for the CD/DVD drive. You might be able to connect one hard drive to the unused plug on that connection. If that cable has only one connector you could replace it with a new cable with two connectors.

Yes you can get a SATA to IDE converter. But, you might want to buy an external USB drive enclosure and convert one of the drives to an external drive.

Good Luck
