The old drives were IDE interface drives (using a large ribbon cable) the new Motherboards use SATA interface (a much smaller cable and plug). There is normally one IDE connector on the motherboard. that can connect two drives. But, it might be used for the CD/DVD drive. You might be able to connect one hard drive to the unused plug on that connection. If that cable has only one connector you could replace it with a new cable with two connectors.
Yes you can get a SATA to IDE converter. But, you might want to buy an external USB drive enclosure and convert one of the drives to an external drive.
