Hi there, my boss gave me her old laptop, 7yrs old. i don't have any sound, even after going into device manager, says no device installed. The computer is an ibm thinkpad T40. Last week i joined "driver detective" thinking that would solve my problem, it did download drivers for me and i opened and saved them but still no joy, please help this is driving me nuts! I have winddows xp

You need to "install" the drivers not just save them. Right click on then in explorer and select install.

Uninstall the sound drivers and reinstall them again.

Uninstall the sound drivers and restart your computer and then install them again.
