Can't see my usb external drive

Hello,
I have been using the same external drive for the past year, on my laptop, now it is not shown in my computer. It doesn't show in device manager or disk management from right clicking my computer, not showing anywhere. I connected it to my desktop, and it was there straight away, so the drive itself is in working order. I can only think it is the driver for the drive, but how can i instal a driver for something that isn't recognised?
Any help is much appreciated.
