Can't access Maxtor external drive

Hello,
I reset my computer to an earkier restore point to resolve problems with IE9 and AdobeX and it appears to be working ok. The problem now is that my Quicken Datas that were backed up on Maxtor 3200 external drive "J" are not found because "J" is not found. Under Device Manager I see 2 mass storage devices but I don't know which is the Maxtor because it has no name listed; also, I only have one unit plugged into the USB port. ?
