internet connectionClosed

Question

Hello, 

My advent laptop has been connection to the internet fine since December, it connects to the home wire less modem that is upstairs, NOTE I HAVE NEVER HAD CONNECTION PROBLEMS WITH HIS LAPTOP OR ANYTHING but, 2 days ago I put my laptop on and it wont pick my my home wireless or any other surrounding internet connections... it just has a red cross through the connection icon on the bottom right hand corner. people say its just a setting malfunction how do i fix this!?
