I purchased my computer several years ago with XP Pro installed. After successfully using this system for several years now on a daily basis for online business, I am now getting a prompt that I must activate Windows. I have no desktop icons or Start button taskbar to access, and am at a loss how or why this event happened. I was able to find a key code, but it does not seem to work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was able to reboot into safe mode earlier using F8 while starting, but am unsure if I had networking available as well. If I do not reply soon, I will be away from the computer until tomorrow. Thanks for your time, it is appreciated.

Hello,

Since you can get in safe mode, it looks very much that your XP got corrupted or has been infected by a virus.

First, lets try this.

Click on, start, programmes, tools, system restore, restore to a previous date that click on next.

See if you can spot a date in bold, click on it then on next.

This will restore your system to that date and you will not lose any data.

Reboot in normal mode.

Good luck
