i have a gateway p7ys0/nv77h19u laptop that the hard disk had crashed. we replaced the drive and when we boot up with the gateway windows 7 home premium system restore disk (gateway recovery management v7.7.6), the options to do a total system recovery or a retain user data recovery are grayed out. the only option available is to exit.
does anyone know how to get the options to come up so I can get this laptop going?
This Gateway recovery software is looking for the recovery partition on the hard drive. The optical disk does not contain a copy of Windows, only the software to copy the image from the recovery partition to the active "C" partition.
You will either need to get the Windows DVD for Gateway or buy a retail copy.
kind of a bogus way of doing things, imho. a recovery cd should be just that, not dependent on something that could go away due to system component failure and not be usable.
Hey soscc did you find a solution? I have the same problem with the recovery cds I bought. It dont let me select any option but exit. I'd appreciate if you or somebody else help with this matter.
Thank you
