My Gateway laptop will turn on, but nothing happens?

Hello,

I recently aquired this pretty old Gateway laptop and for the past couple days I haven't been able to fully turn it on. When I press the power button, it will turn on and show this symbol for the CD thing but nothing else will happen and the screen will be completely blank. I did the thing where you unplug it and take the battery out and hold down the power button, but it didn't seem to work. I have no idea what to do. Thanks
