Hi,

I am using my seagate external hard drive from long back. Yesterday I copied huge amount of data in one go. After that whenever i am trying to plugging in to the computer, System not detected my external hard drive and External HDD light are keep on blinking

I have tried in another computer with Windows 7/XP and Ubuntu 10, it is not detecting in any of them. I have tried it to find out in disk management but it is not visible there as well. Not even diskpart utility worked for me.

I have very important data on it and I want to recover it. Can it be possible to recover my data? Please help me out for it.

Hard disk details:
model number Seagate FreeAgent Go(9KW2AH-501)
SERIAL NU: 2GEL1H4F
500 GB

Hi Abhijeet02,

Have you tried uninstalling the drive from Device Manager, restarting the PC and plugging the device back in. Try with another USB cable. All the troubleshooting steps you have followed seem correct. It is unfortunate none of them solved the issue. Check the manufacturer's web page for some driver updates. Check some recovery tools. If the drive keeps being undetected, contact the manufacturer's support. Usually they provide some data recovery suggestions. I recommend you to hide your serial number because it contains information about your drive and its warranty conditions.

Hope this helps

Hi R2D2_WD,

Thanks for the help. But as I said my hard disk is not showing up in Device Manager. I have tried another USB cable as well, it didn't helped. I didn't find any driver update on manufacture's web page. Seagate have a seatool recovery tool but it is also not detecting my external hard disk.

Can you suggest any tool for data recovery. Data is very important and I need to recover it.

Thanks for the help.

I would search for some tool from the Computertech's list. Have in mind that the unsuccessful usage of recovery tools on a failed drive could make future professional data recovery even harder. In case you recover your data and your drive has no warranty, I strongly recommend you to get a new drive and not trying to repair this one. It seems to me that it has some connectivity issue cause by a mechanical problem.
