Laptop connected to Internet can't surf the net

Hello

I recently bought a used Compaq Presario Laptop with Windows XP. I am connecting to wifi through a d-link router the laptop says it's connected but when I try to bring up google or facebook I get an error message saying page cannot be displayed, however the other devices in my house are working fine. Can someone please help?
