My daughter has a Gateway Model T laptop computer that is showing characters instead of English on the screen. The icons still work but everything else is in the gibberish. How can this be fixed or can it?

Is it really xp? What are icons? Are they the shortcuts on the desktop? Press the windows key amd type intl.cpl into the run box and hit enter. In installed services, click add. Select the language, or make certain ypur language is correct. If it is, then it sounds like there may be a sticking funtion key. Hold down the right shift key for ten seconds, and turn off stickey keys.

Ok. Either way, did you try to confirm the language and sticky keys?

I can send you a picture of the screen if that would help. It is in English and the function key is not stuck

When I click on the icon it works and the words are in english. Just the home page is affected. Thank you for all of your help

It looks as though your system font was changed to wingdings. That might be a result of a virus. But, you can change it and reboot and see if it changes back, whichbif ot does, it is a virus.
