Hello,
My laptop has a black screen. I've tried everything mentioned in this forum and others, still black screen. The last thing I tried was cleaning the CPU which was corroded with white stuff, but nothing has worked. All the lights come on saying it has power and is charging, and I can hear the fan kick on. Does anyone have any advice or know something else I can try?
Toshiba satellite L655 windows 7. It was working fine last night. I powered it off as usual and when I tried to get on it today the black screen appeared. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

There is another possibility to consider. You never know.
Magnetic On/Off Switch to detect of Close/Open Lid
- Your magnet switch is fubar some how. Open up the speaker cover and see if your lid actuator switch that comes in contact with the magnet on your lid cover is stuck or not (find where the magnet is in the back of the front lid cover, trace where the magnet area actually touches the base of the computer and you will find the switch)
- Workaround, start windows with lid at 30 degree angle

Thank you so much for all the advise! I will definitely try these steps tonight and keep you posted on how everything goes.
Again, thank you so much!!
I was watching a YouTube video while doing it and it showed you had to set the laptop settings to external monitor but I can't do that. I can't get past the black screen.
Toshiba is set up to automatically detect an external monitor using an HDMI cable, I don't know if it would detect a TV with a VGA. To tell you frankly I am not a Toshiba fan.
An external analog monitor or HDMI monitor can be connected to the computer's external monitor port. In order to connect a monitor, follow the steps as detailed below:
1. Turn the computer's power off.
2. Connect the monitor cable to the external monitor port.
3. Turn the external monitor’s power on.
4. Turn the computer's power on.
When you turn on the power, the computer will automatically recognize the monitor and determine whether it is a color or monochrome device.
If you have problems on getting an image displayed on the correct monitor, you should use the FN + F5 hot key to change the display settings (if you then disconnect the external monitor before you turn the computer's power off, be sure to press FN + F5 hot key again to switch to the internal display).
Since you hear the fan kick in, I don't think that it's a motherboard or hard disk issue but a display issue such as your back lights or inverter. Looking closely at your monitor, at a certain angle you might be able to see an appearance of your desktop.
P.S. I think that your laptop came with an HDMI cable but I'm not sure.

Again, thank you so much!!
